| My 1974 Gremlin X |
 |
|
I purchased this car from the original
owner in January 2000. It was located in Mississippi and sold new there. It is a 1974 Gremlin X 304/auto,
Trans-am Red, black interior, PS/PB Air, Rear Window Defogger, luggage rack and
other options. I have all paperwork since new including the
original window sticker. (see photo below)
We have restored the interior, applied
a new paint job, overhauled the engine and transmission. All exterior chrome was replaced with new or re-chromed.
We did a total overhaul on the suspension, steering system and brake
system. The car today looks better than when new! Our desires in restoring
this car was to keep it as original as possible.
The car has been very well received by the AMC hobby. It was featured by USA
Today on their national TV show. It has been featured by Hemming Muscle Machines
magazine. CNN/Money featured it on their web-based financial magazine.

The photographs shown below are to be a photographic record of the restoration
progress of this car.

The
car arrived by transport from it's hometown in Mississippi on 3/8/2000.
It looked like it needed a lot of soap and water and a lot of attention. |

We
continue the slow process of
replacing everything as original as possible.
That includes factory emissions, vacuum lines and wiring. Hopefully! |

Today
we removed the seats and old carpet. The seats are to be recovered and
we
should have the new carpet installed by the time they return. |

The
interior is now 95% complete. Just a few minor details to
complete. Anyone know of a source for rear window struts? |

Today
we removed the doors and door hinges. then we rebuild the door hinges.
Monday the car goes to the body shop, for the paint job. |

Today
we took the car to the body shop. He should be through with his work by
9/1/00. Then I will start putting it back together. I
have set a goal of having the car 99% complete by September 30th. I
plan to take it to the AMC meet in Atlanta. |

As
you can see the car is still not ready. I must say he is slow, but he is doing a great job so far.
All of the prep work looks great. |

Today
the car was returned from the paint shop after eight coats of Trans-Am
Red paint. As you can see we still have a lot of work to do to get it
back together. |

The
car is now 90% complete. We still have a few small details to take care
of. |
It's
Finished!!!!
or at least as finished as a project ever becomes |
